WASC

On March 20, 2012 a WASC "Initial Visit Committee" came to Edgewood High School and met with students, parents,  faculty, and staff.  Additionally, the committee observed instruction in classrooms.  Their commendations and recommendations are included in the "Initial Visiting Committee Report" that is available to view on this webpage.

We are pleased to report that Edgewood High School has been granted initial accreditation by the Schools Commission of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) for grades 9th through 10th.  The term of initial accreditation will run from the present through June 30, 2015. 

On September 17th, 2013 a WASC representative visited Edgewood High School to review our "Substantive Change Report" submission.  Per WASC policy, it was necessary for us to notify them as we have instituted a "substantive change" to our educational program with the addition of the 11th and 12th grades.  After completing his review on September 17th, the representative informed us that he would make a recommendation for our initial accreditation to include the 11th and 12th grades and that we should receive formal notification of this in January of 2014. 

In March of 2015, a WASC committee will return to Edgewood High School to review our "Self-Study" of their initial visitation report findings and recommendations.  At that time we will pursuing a six year accreditation, as is customary with most established comprehensive high schools.

WASC is an acronym for Western Association of School and Colleges.  Its accreditation certifies to other educational institutions and to the general public that an institution meets or exceeds established standards and is achieving its own stated objectives. WASC and the other five regional associations in the United States grant institutional accreditation after a comprehensive self-study followed by an on-site evaluation of the programs and services of the total institution.

Accreditation means that all diploma or degree programs and educational activities offered by the institution are covered by the institution's certification. The evaluation determines whether or not the institution qualifies for regional recognition, but, more important, periodic self-study and review promote improvement in educational quality.
